New carnivore discovered in Madagascar

Durrell's vontsira
Durrell's vontsira (Salanoia durrelli) was found by chance when researchers who were

studying other wildlife on a remote island in Madagascar spotted something strange

swimming by.

They captured two of the creatures

(the male unfortunately dying in the trap and being sent off for further research)

declared it a new mongoose-like species Durrell's vontsira.
